Stendes baznīca celta ar pārtraukumiem no 1668. līdz 1751. gadam, baznīcas dibinātāji — fon der Brigenu (Brüggen) dzimta. Raksturīga 17. gadsimta Kurzemes baznīca — vienkārša vienjoma garenbūve ar poligonālu altārdaļu un torni ar poligonālu jumta smaili, ko rotā gailis un krusts, sakristeja piebūvēta vēlāk. Baznīca nav ne paplašināta, ne pārbūvēta, bet vairākkārt remontēta, pēdējie 1997. — 2004. gadā. Baznīcas iekārta raksturo savdabīgu procesu 18. gadsimta vidus baznīcu interjera mākslā — klasisko tendenču ieviešanu dienvidkatoliskā baroka altāra tipam. Interesantas ir Latvijā mazākās E. F. Valkera (E. F. Walker) firmas būvētās ērģeles (1898). Kaut arī ir nelielas, tās akustiski labi piepilda telpu, pateicoties vairākiem meistariski intonētiem reģistriem. 1934. gadā baznīcā atklāta piemiņas plāksne 43 Latvijas brīvības cīņās un Pirmajā pasaules karā kritušajiem Stendes draudzes dēliem.
