Pateicoties baznīcas dibinātāja Georga fon Firksa (Georg von Fircks) un viņa pēcnācēju rūpēm, Nurmuižas baznīca (1594) visā Ziemeļkurzemē uzskatāma par izcilāko. Tā ir taisnstūrveida plāna trīsjomu būve ar poligonālu apsīdu, sakristeju un neogotiskās formās būvētu 47 metrus augstu zvanu torni. Monumentālā celtne 1674.—1687. gadā ieguva greznu kokā grieztu iekārtu, ko papildina daudzi gleznojumi. Altāris un kancele liecina par kāda nezināma autora pilnīgi oriģinālu rokrakstu, kas Latvijā sastopams vienīgi šajā objektā.
Pie šīs iekārtas komplekta pieder arī pults, efektīgā un dievnamos reti sastopamā kristāmtrauka pamatne, baznīcēnu soli ar apkalumiem un ģerboņu gleznojumiem, ērģeļu luktas ar gleznojumiem, biktssols. Darbojošās ērģeles būvētas 1840. gadā. Ievērību pelna altāra priekšā novietotā grezna, akmenī kalta kapa plāksne, veltīta Georga fon Firksa un viņa sievas Annas piemiņai – viens no izcilākajiem akmens tēlniecības pieminekļiem Latvijā . Pagrabos — Firksu dzimtas kapenes. Apsīdas daļā vizmo restaurēti sīkrūšu stiklojumi svina ietvaros — unikāls 17. gadsimta amatniecības piemineklis. Baznīcas kapsētu ietver no laukakmeņiem mūrēts, apmests un kārniņiem pārsegts žogs ar vārtu arku.
