Description
Sākotnēji baznīca pastāvējusi kā kapela 1234. gadā dibinātā dominikāņu klostera ansamblī. Kā baznīca izveidojusies 13. gs. beigās un 1582. gadā kļūst par pirmo latviešu baznīcu Rīgā. Lielākās pārbūves notikušas 15. – 16. gs. mijā, kad izveidoja tās pakāpju zelmini un zāli pārsedza ar tīkla velvēm, un 1587. - 1589.gadā, kad latviešu luterāņu draudzes vajadzībām baznīcu paplašināja ar manierisma formās uzceltu altāra (kora) piebūvi. Manierisma formās veidotā altāra piebūve ir viens no retajiem šī stila būvniecības paraugiem Latvijā. Iekštelpās atrodas Rīgas meistaru darinātais baroka altāris (1768 – 1769), ērģeļu luktas rotā 18.gs. gleznojumi.
