Rīgas Strazdumuižas vidusskola - attīstības centrs

Riga Strazdumuiža Secondary School – Development Centre is an educational institution where children and youth with severe visual impairments are provided with a learning process adapted to visual characteristics, and which offers support to visually impaired and blind students integrated into mainstream schools. Students are admitted from the age of 7. Upon graduating from grade 9 or 12, students receive a certificate/diploma of basic or secondary education and, depending on personal abilities and aspirations, can pursue vocational education, secondary vocational training, or higher education.

Riga Strazdumuiža Secondary School – Development Centre also offers part-time on-site studies, which provide an opportunity to obtain basic or secondary education for individuals of any age who were unable to do so earlier due to vision issues.

Curricular and extracurricular activities are organized taking into account each student's individual abilities, needs, and interests, in line with their visual specificities.

Supervision by an ophthalmologist is provided.

Provision and monitoring of an individual visual regimen during the learning process.

Multisensory stimulation for children with visual and complex impairments.

Individual support for learners and their parents/guardians at the institution is provided by:

Children are admitted to the school based on the conclusion of the pedagogical-medical commission.

The school also has its own preschool groups, which provide preschool education for children with visual, mental developmental, and complex disorders (see Riga Strazdumuiža Secondary School – Development Centre, preschool education groups).

The institution also operates as a development centre, ensuring the following functions:

• The school – development centre organizes an Early Intervention Program for early childhood and preschool-aged children with visual and combined complex impairments, offering pedagogical, psychological, and social support to families from all across Latvia
• cooperation with municipalities and educational institutions to identify all visually impaired and blind children across the country
• specialized assistance and consultations for visually impaired and blind children of all ages and their parents
• consultations and support for children with visual and complex impairments integrated into various mainstream institutions, as well as for their teachers and support staff
