Augšdaugavas novada ziemeļu daļā, Nīcgales – Špoģu, Vaboles – Upmalas ceļa krustojumā ceļotāju uzmanību piesaista no sarkaniem ķieģeļiem būvētā Kalupes Vissvētākā Altāra Sakramenta Romas katoļu baznīca Pirmā Kalupes baznīca būvēta 1785. gadā no priežu koka baļķiem. Šo baznīcu būvēja Līksnas grāfs J. Zībergs ar meistara Šidlovska palīdzību. Koka baznīca bija ar diviem torņiem 19,2 m gara un 8,1 m plata. Baznīca kalupiešiem kalpoja 97 gadus. Pēc nojaukšanas tās vietā uzstādīja krustu, kas bijušās muižas liepu audzē stāv vēl tagad. 1861. gadā tika likti pamati jaunajai Kalupes mūra baznīcai. Līdzekļus deva draudze, grāfs un prāvests S. Beinarovičs. Politiskie notikumi aizkavēja baznīcas celtniecību par 20 gadiem. 1882. gadā baznīca bija uzcelta un prāvests S. Beinarovičs to iesvētīja. Šis notikums iemūžināts baznīcas fasādē: “1882. Deo omni potenti”. 1896. gadā baznīcu konsekrēja Moģiļevas bīskaps Albins Simons. Baznīca ir no sarkaniem ķieģeļiem, bez torņiem, 34,4 m gara un 19,2 m plata. Virs fasādes paceļas dzelzs krusts. Baznīca celta krustveida formā, skārda jumtu, koka griestiem un grīda no cementa flīzēm. 1913. gadā tiek mākslinieciski apgleznotas sienas. Baznīcā ir trīs koka altāri ar daudzām svēto figūrām. Galvenā altāra centrā atrodas Kristus statuja ar ciboriju rokā, sānos Sv. Terēzes un Sv. Staņislava statujas, pie dievgalda labajā pusē Sv. Franciska statuja. Sānu altāros -labajā pusē Lurdas Dievmātes statuja un kreisajā sānu altārī sv. Miķeļa Ercenģeļa statuja. Tās 1928. gadā iegādātas Parīzē. Uz sienām melna marmora plāksnes ar Zībergu piemiņas uzrakstiem. Baznīcai ir trīs zvani. Viens ap 400 kg smags. Divi pārējie mazāki. Apkārt baznīcas dārzam sarkanu ķieģeļu žogs. Baznīcas dārzā apbedīts noslepkavotais prāvests Klements Apšs (1913 – 1990).
