19. gadsimta pirmajā pusē Cēsu Jaunā pils un muiža piederēja grāfam Kārlim Zīversam, kurš 1842. gadā lika nojaukt to, kas vēl saglabājies no Sv. Katrīnas baznīcas, un uz vecā dievnama pamatiem uzcēla tagadējo baznīcu.
Kristus Apskaidrošanas pareizticīgo baznīca celta bizantiešu stilā. Sienas mūrētas no dolomītakmeņiem. No vecās Katrīnas baznīcas pilnīgi saglabājušās gotiskās baznīcas draudzes telpas. Dievnamā pie altāra atrodas glezna “Kristus augšāmcelšanās”, bet sienas klāj J.Kēlera gleznojumi. Baznīcas dārzā atrodas Cēsu pilsmuižas īpašnieku Zīversu dzimtas kapi.
