Description
Baznīca, kas cēli slejas Burtnieku ezera krastā, ir viens no spilgtākajiem Vidzemes vēlīnās gotikas un baroka paraugiem. Tā celta laikā no 1283. līdz 1287. gadam un veltīta Svētajai Marijai. 1654. gadā baznīca cieta ugunsgrēkā, tomēr pilnībā tika atjaunota. Mācītājmuižā esošajās baznīcas grāmatās atrodami ieraksti par cilvēku dzimšanas datiem no 1720. gada.
Pēc iepriekšēja pieteikuma par ziedojumiem vari uzkāpt baznīcas tornī un pavērties uz Burtnieku ezera plašumiem un skaistām lauku ainavām. Pie Burtnieku baznīcas vari aplūkot 1934. gadā izveidoto Varoņu birzi, kur atrodas Nikolaja Maulica darinātais piemineklis, kas veltīts 1. pasaules karā un Latvijas Brīvības cīņās kritušajiem Burtnieku draudzes dēliem.
