1865. gadā sākotnēji celta un kalpojusi skolas vajadzībām, taču vēlāk – 19./20.gs.mijā sekmīgi pielāgota baznīcas vajadzībām.
Baznīcas ēka ir senākā saglabājusies ēka Aknīstē.
Baznīca ir koka guļbūve, kas mūsdienās apmūrēta ar ķieģeļiem, jumta korē izveidots miniatūrs tornītis ar galeriju.
